Strike of Strakonice Textile Workers in 1933 - social-economy conflict during the great depresion

The thesis, whose content is based on social history analysis of specific historical event which took place in Strakonice town at the turn of 1932 and 1933, is focused on the issue of strike as social- economical conflict with regard to catastrophe of the Great Depression 1929 significantly influencing political opinions of individual citizens. The main aim is to depict the dichotomy between anti system features of strike (strike as a political tool designated to control social tenses which can be used as weapon against government) and perceiving the strike clearly like a mutual conflict of interests between employer and employee without political aims. Afterwards, there will be interpreted several strategies and motivations of historical players (workers movement, political parties, other local elites of the town), which led to a competition for dominance. Substantial emphasis is placed on the analysis of ideology and strategy of Czechoslovak Communist party which struggled for hegemony over the local community of workers. Conclusions bring evaluation of social credit of historical players in the time of its entering and exiting the conflict and also the causes of its profits or loses.

The negotiation process of the city groups applied on the case of courtyards

The subject of this diploma thesis is the issue of courtyards. Courtyard as a specific place in the city, which has lost its original function. It can serve different types of usage, among other things, it enables meeting of different groups of the city's inhabitants and their interaction nowadays. Unlike the public space, other terms of usage can be seen in the courtyards. Various social relationships can be observed in dependece of its usage. I deal with the process of negotiation of city dweller groups at two selected courtyards, the rules of their functioning and how the role of the decision- makers forms these places. I have deliberately decided to use courtyards with different visitor functions. Conflict between different views on their usage and disagreements can be seen in these courtyards. Different Mentality as a basis of international conflicts. The case of escalation relations between Russia and the EU in 2008 - 2018.

Since 2008 with the Russo-Georgian war we observe the gradual deterioration of relations between Russia and the European Union which achieves its apogee during the Ukrainian crisis and the annexation of Crimea. The cultural approach is to be applied for understanding and exploration of the conflict: its reasons and mechanism. The work is aimed to define conflicting beliefs and values, considering them on a cultural basis. The current escalation of relationships is reviewed as a cultural conflict, the author claims different mentality as one of the influential factors and possible dimensions of conflict analysis. This work also points out internal cultural mechanisms and features provoking aggressive external policy and considers cultural identity as a container of ideas which justify and originate opposition and conflict with other cultures. This work is an attempt to introduce a concept of an individual's mentality, to link personal and group mentality and find out how cultural meaning content influences on formation of a personal mindset - a system of personal beliefs and values. Harry Potter: A Social critique

Harry Potter: A Social Critique The aim of this thesis is to offer an analysis of J.K. Rowling's fantasy novels, the Harry Potter series, as a work of social criticism. The striking contrast between the two diametrically opposed fictional worlds, the wizarding world in which the governing principle is magic and its muggle (a term denoting non-magical or status) counterpart defined mainly by the lack of magic, enables Rowling to present and explore various social issues: racial bigotry, social stratification, prejudice, corruption, child welfare, moral questions, misuse of power, civil conflicts, national bias, slavery, terrorism and gender issues. The two coexisting cultures constructed in her novels are reflected in language, customs and values. The complexity of Rowling's work allows her to gradually move towards bigger issues, at first revolving mainly around the main character, Harry Potter, and later involving both, the wizarding and muggle world as a whole. In other words, what starts out as a children's story of childhood changes its course towards a critique of greater social injustices as the characters grow up, a clear bildungsroman in which additional themes are developed apart from the basic struggle between good and evil.
